Funding and financing

JCDecaux’s public toilets cost neither cities nor taxpayers anything.
They are also free for everyone to use. Funding is provided by outdoor advertising sold by JCDecaux in other locations around the city where the toilets are located. The toilets are always free of advertising. The toilets are 100% funded by JCDecaux, which is also responsible for their operation, care and maintenance.

Questions and Answers

Toilet is broken/dirty, who do I contact?

You contact our fault report. Contact details email: [email protected] Tel: 08 474 83 50

Can I be locked in the toilet?

No, you cannot be. The maximum time you can spend in a toilet is 20 minutes. After this, the door opens automatically.

How do I lock?

All our toilets lock automatically when you enter and close the door. In our accessible toilets, you press the open button to exit. In the standard toilets, you just press the handle down.

Why is a toilet closed?

The most common reason for closing a toilet is that it has been vandalized and requires major repair. This could be due to vandalism, vulnerable people using the toilet to get a roof over their heads, or organized crime stealing components needed to operate the toilet. Graffiti is common, however, toilets do not usually need to be closed down because of this as graffiti is quickly removed.

How much does a toilet cost?

The toilets cost millions to install. However, the biggest costs come from ongoing maintenance, which is paid for 100% by JCDecaux.

What does self-cleaning mean?

After each visit, the floor and toilet seat are flushed with disinfectant cleaner. This is done automatically between visits. Sensors ensure that the toilet is empty before cleaning starts.

Can I get a toilet for my city?

All JCDecaux toilets are exhibited in municipalities where we have cooperation agreements. If you want to know more about how this works, please contact Establishment Director Micael Nilsson.

How are the toilets financed?

The toilets are funded through outdoor advertising sold by JCDecaux in the cities where the toilets are located.
